A strange phenomenon - why does public administration seem to almost inevitably lead to inefficiency? And is it better to embrace more efficient private enterprise which then proceeds to screw society for the sake of profit?

Pagan Sphinx - Gina, the basic roots of the story of how and why I came to Germany are here. :-) As I explore the "Essay" form of writing, I have realised that there is quite a strong autobiographical sub-theme to it; at least as it has been developing in the (almost) year since I have been writing this blog. Anyone undertaking the onerous task of reading all my posts would find out an awful lot about me!Francis Hunthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00422476000328664994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911334903016795718.post-91809197473481024692011-01-18T19:40:51.457+01:002011-01-18T19:40:51.457+01:00I moved as a child from Lisbon to Paris and then f...I moved as a child from Lisbon to Paris and then from Paris to western Massachusetts in 1967. I consider W. Mass my home now. It wasn't easy nation hopping at that young age but I think it built a sort of resiliency and adventurous spirit that makes up a part of who I am.

I did wonder how you ended up in Germany. :-)

GinaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17296223961815248113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911334903016795718.post-9217525100076517462011-01-17T03:08:49.244+01:002011-01-17T03:08:49.244+01:00I went back and read your other post as well since...I went back and read your other post as well since we hadn't met last summer. I wonder why it is that any place we aren't inhabiting always sounds so much more exotic and interesting than those we are? I'm also a veteran of many long distance moves and realize from experience it takes a while to fit in and even to grow fond of a new place. You've done very well indeed.

Your neighborhood in the Duchy sounds like a wonderful place and I loved the monorail. Solutions to commuting that are so practical and elegant are in short supply on this side of the Atlantic. Of course, government incompetence is common everywhere.susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16747450215034568033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1911334903016795718.post-38948644607578553112011-01-15T14:42:33.785+01:002011-01-15T14:42:33.785+01:00that was informative and enjoyable..it satisfied t...that was informative and enjoyable..it satisfied the part of me that craves the knowledge of places I have to learn of places I have never traveled to...where I used to live in Canada was in the same situation where three cities were almost one and the cries to amalgamate were the same and for the same reasons...unfortunately they did much to the detriment of the area..all those claims of cost savings etc never came true..now instead of three somewhat efficient municipalities.. we now have a huge redtape monster that is a bottomless money welllivintheblueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03568851367734126452noreply@blogger.com
